Recently, the Public Health Laboratory began to enter test results into the Ontario Laboratories Information System (OLIS). OLIS is an information system that allows doctors to see medical laboratory test results on-line, by searching by Health Card Number.

Health cards are not used for most tests done at Hassle Free Clinic, so test results will not be in the system.  These tests include

  • Gonorrhea
  • Chlamydia
  • Syphilis
  • Herpes
  • Hepatitis
  • Vaginal Swabs (BV/Trichomonas)
  • HIV (HIV testing is Anonymous, meaning no identifying information is collected)

What is the issue?

If a doctor uses an electronic system for keeping record of patients, and they are registered with OLIS, and you have used your Health Card, your lab results from Hassle Free will be in that system. We do use health cards for some tests sent to private labs, including pap smears.

Hassle Free Clinic will not share any additional information from your chart without your permission and in accordance with the Personal Health Information Act. (PHIPA).

 What can you do?

If you want to opt out of this, you can do so by calling Service Ontario at 1-800-291-1405; (TTY 1-800-387-5559).   Hassle Free cannot do this for you.  We believe it currently takes approximately 2 weeks for the opt-out option to take effect.

If you have opted to restrict access to your test results, Service Ontario will send you a letter in the mail confirming that the restriction has been made.
