Hassle Free Clinic is excited to announce that we are now offering PEP/PrEP for everyone who needs it!
We provide all lab testing for our PEP/PrEP patients, no appointments necessary. We are providing this service as a 1 stop shop.
How does getting PrEP work?
When you come in for testing, simply ask the person you see about PrEP to discuss whether PrEP is right for you.
If PrEP is deemed right for you, the staff member/physician will proceed to do your testing.
The time needed to start PrEP can be lengthy. Therefore, an appointment will need to be booked to ensure both the patient and staff have all the information needed. Appointments currently have very quick turnarounds, with most appointments being offered the next day.
When you come in for your appointment, you will see either our Registered Nurse or a physician, who will review your needs, perform the necessary assessments, and prescribe your PrEP. You will leave with an initial supply of PrEP, and the rest of your prescription will be mailed to your house or made available for you to pick up at the clinic or the nearest Purolator facility, depending on your individual preference.
Re-test in 3 months, no appointment needed - simply mention you are here for your PrEP follow-up, and we will take care of the rest.
What sets Hassle Free Clinic’s PrEP/PEP program apart from others?
Hassle Free Clinic is a well-established and very rooted clinic. The Clinic opened its doors more than 50 years ago, and has been a staple in STI testing, advocacy, and assisting in helping to create policy around STIs/HIV and rapid testing. We were the first in Canada to offer anonymous HIV testing. Our approach is based on actively listening to our patients’ concerns and needs and doing what we can to meet them. We take the time to have conversations with each patient to meet their individual needs best, and fill gaps in education, misconceptions around bodies, sex, sexuality, and sexual health.
At Hassle Free, our patients will always get the proper care and testing, to the best of our abilities. We do all lab testing, including blood work, swabs (when needed), urine testing, treatment, follow-ups, and try to assist to the best of our ability with any other concerns. We have been and will continue to look for ways to improve services and accessibility for all patients.
What is PrEP?
PrEP stands for Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis for people at risk of contracting HIV. With many options for and ways to access PrEP it is a great way to protect oneself against HIV. PrEP does NOT protect against other STIs - condoms are always the best form of protecting yourself against ALL STIs, including HIV.
Is PrEP right for me?
As mentioned above, PrEP is meant for people who are at high risk of contracting HIV. The best way to make an informed decision is to come to the clinic and speak with one of our very capable, knowledgeable, and compassionate staff members. They will help guide you to make your own decision. PrEP is not right, nor is it necessary for everyone. Understanding your risk can help you make the best choice for your health and lifestyle.
What PrEP options does Hassle Free Clinic offer?
Hassle Free Clinic offers all approved PrEP medications: Truvada, Descovy, and Apretude (2-month injectable PrEP). To learn more about all the PrEP medications and side effects, you can click here.
What is PEP?
PEP stands for Post-Exposure Prophylaxis and can be given to anyone after any potential high-risk activity.
For someone prescribed PEP, all of your testing and follow-ups can be done at the clinic. A doctor or staff person will explain how to take PEP and the required follow-up when you see them. A doctor will write you a prescription for PEP.
How much does PEP cost?
The cost of PEP will depend. The best way to find out is to have a conversation with a Hassle Free Clinic staff member or doctor, as well as a pharmacist, who can fill your prescription. Different pharmacies may offer different programs.
